Welcome to Hemingway Village on the Web
Hemingway Village is a collection of 410 homes within the city of
Dublin, Ohio. The neighborhood was established on November 17, 1978 and
is made up of five phases of development. We are surrounded by
significant landmarks in Dublin such as; Coffman Park & The Dublin
Recreation Center, Dublin Coffman High School and the Outdoor Pool. Our
youngest children are zoned to attend Scottish Corners Elementary
School, our middle-school aged children attend Karrer Middle School,
and our high-school aged children attend Dublin Coffman High School.
We have an annual community garage sale, Fourth of July
Float, and celebrate Christmas Eve with over 4400 luminaires lining the
streets of Hemingway. This is a family-friendly neighborhood, within
walking distance of most of the wonderful services that Dublin
provides.
This web site is primarily intended for the residents of Hemingway
Village. It was built for the community and is maintained by the Hemingway Village Civic
Association.

Here is some information about the Emerald Ash Borer beetle. I think it is important that we all get educated on this so we can make educated decisions on the future of our Ash trees.
Click HERE for a fact sheet on the Ash Borer. Good information there about what it is and treatment options.
Click HERE for a list of companies that the City of Dublin has said we should work with in treating our trees.
Click HERE for the permit from the City of Dublin to have your street tree treated. They need this filled out so they don't cut down trees that have been treated.
Click HERE for the Dublin City Forrester web site and HERE for their page on the Emerald Ash Borer and the city's plans. Dublin will not treat the Hemingway Village street trees or the trees in most of the other neighborhoods in the city.
We're still working out some options for the neighborhood. I've received a lot of great ideas. I think it would be good to have a brainstorming meeting to discuss this. If someone wants to take this one by the horns and run with it, please let me know.

2009 Hemingway Village Garage Sale
|
Our garage sale will be Friday, May 8th and Saturday May 9th. Friday will be from 5 to 8 for Hemingway Village residents only. Saturday will be from 8AM to 2PM and is open to the public. We have done some advertisements and will be handing out maps and putting out signs. If you would like to participate, please send me an email - steve at hemingwayvillage dot org. The price will be $7. That will cover the Dublin charge of $5 for each house and will cover our costs for advertisements, signs, maps and balloons. It should be a good time so I hope we have a lot of homes participating.

New Recycle Bins for Hemingway - some time
|
I asked a few people about the new recycle bins that are going to different neighborhoods in Dublin. Seems that they are being distributed street-by-street at one time of the year. Hemingway Village will get new ones either this fall or some time next year. Here's the email I received from the city:

There is a good chance they will get their container this year (late
summer or early fall). If not this year, then they would get it next
year at the latest. We typically deliver the containers over one or two days in late August or September. My guess is we will deliver in September of
this year. We will send out a letter to residents (two to four weeks
prior to delivery) explaining the process. We usually deliver about
3000 containers to households in approximately two days but since we
are nearing the end we may deliver around 4000 containers if we can work out the funding for more. This is an unknown at this time. Thanks, Beth

2009 Hemingway Village Independence Day Parade Float
|
I wanted to give everyone an update on the float. I've had several
people ask when they could help. I think we're in a place now where we
can use some help. We're not ready to do the pomping yet -- in fact
we just finished laying the foundation of the float on the trailer.
We've got a design, a base for the float and a trailer. We've got to
buy some stuff tomorrow and start working.
We're working on the float at John Livorno's house. He lives at the end of Old Prose Ct.
One
stumbling point has been that John's garage has been full because he's
been trying to finish redoing his deck. He and Steve Friday are going to be working on the railing tomorrow afternoon.
If anyone wants to come over after 1:00 and help John work on his deck,
that would help with the float progress and I'm sure he would
appreciate it.
About 6:30 or 7 PM we're going to get back together and start working o
n the
float again tomorrow.
There will be some work going on during the day with a lot of the heavy
lifting stuff going on later. We'll be following this pattern all week
until Friday when we'll be full-bore trying to finish it up.
If you just want to see the progress, feel free stop by and say hi.

Green Ribbons Coming for all of the Ash Trees!!
|
I went to an informational session put on by the city tonight about the
Emerald Ash Borer beetle that is spreading around the area. It will
kill all of the Ash trees in the area if they are not treated. The
City is treating some trees on some streets but are not planning to
treat any in Hemingway Village. A representative from TrueGreen said
that he would go around our neighborhood over the next few days and
mark all of the potentially impacted trees with a red ribbon and
provide us an estimate for treatment. I have no idea what the costs
will be and personally couldn't tell which trees are Ash.
If
you see a guy going around marking trees with green tape or ribbons, it's
just the TrueGreen guy. Please leave the ribbons on so they can get a
good count.
We'll make a decision on a strategy after ...

2009 Hemingway Village Neighborhood Garage Sale

Our neighborhood garage sale will be held on May 8th and 9th. The 8th will be a neighborhood preview, open to Hemingway Village residents only. Saturday morning will be for the public. If you would like to participate, please let me know. We have to pay the city for a license for everyone who is having a garage sale.
We
will have advertising in the local papers and will post signs outside
Hemingway Village pointing people here. We will also create a map and
a list of homes participating with a list of the stuff they will be
selling. We'll make copies and give these out to the people having the
sales so you can distribute them to the buyers. We will also provide
balloons for each house to show that you are participating in the sale.
Something
new this year goes along with the theme of cleaning out your
house.& nbsp;
We are going to look into some options around recycling old electronics
and cell phones as well as working with a local church to see if they
want to pick up all of the stuff that doesn't sell by Saturday afternoon.
This should be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to clear out your house.

|
The Dublin Police Department has a house watching service for residents who go on vacation. The minimum is 3 days with an unlimited length. Go to the Dublin Police House Watch Page for more information or to sign up. Sounds like a great idea for people taking vacation. Take advantage of this great service and keep crime down in Dublin!
