Dublin residents rate city best place to live in national survey

I went to the State of the City presentation last night and was very impressed. It made me proud and happy that I live in Dublin. The current and past City Council members and city staff have done a great job running this town. The results of the survey bear that out.

The residents of Dublin rate their community higher as a place to live than people from any other community participating in the recently-published nationwide 2009 independent National Citizen Survey.

http://dublin.oh.us/ncs/

Keep Hemingway Village Clean

As a dog owner, I know it can be tough sometimes to make sure you clean
up after your pet. It is, however, a common courtesy and also a Dublin
Ordinance (http://www.dublin.oh.us/gov/code/#pet).
No one wants to clean up the mess left by your dog.

Please help keep our neighborhood clean and pick up after your dogs.
It's not hard to do. If you're walking your dog in the dark, bring a
flashlight. Also, please do not put your dog's mess in just anyone's trash can if they happen to be out unless it's trash day and they haven't picked up the trash yet. I'm sure you wouldn't want to pull a trash can into your garage if it had that in it.

If you see someone who doesn't clean up after their pet and you're not
comfortable talking to them about it, let us know and one of the
Association Officers will talk with them. You can see the list of officers at http://www.hemingwayvillage.org/modules.php?name=Resident_Search&op=DBOfficerList.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Thanks,

Steve S.

Emerald Ash Borer Update

E-News from Dublin: Emerald Ash Borers

The City of Dublin will continue treating and removing select ash trees along streets in response to the confirmation earlier this year of emerald ash borers within the city.

The Emerald Ash Borer is a non-native insect that burrows into ash trees, eventually killing them. The insect is spreading throughout Ohio, killing millions of ash trees in the Midwest. It was confirmed in Dublin in May.

The City has been treating select ash trees and planning other efforts to try to curtail the insect's progress into the Dublin area since 2008.

By the end of October, the City will treat street trees with a chemical injected into the soil along Amberleigh Way, Gillingham Avenue, Bristol Drive, Golden Place, Parker Hill Lane, Wendy Trail, Kendall Ridge Boulevard, Ballybridge Lane, Killbrittan Lane and Brand Road in front of the Wellington subdivision.

In some cases, it is less expensive to remove and replace the street trees with other species rather than treat with chemicals. The City will remove and replace ash trees along Park Hill Drive, Summerhouse Lane West, Tayside Circle and the Wiltshire Drive greenspace in the Wyndham Village subdivision.

Residents in these areas will receive notices from the City before the work begins.

The City can take steps to treat some trees, but the sheer number of ash trees in town mean some will die because of the insects. There are thousands of ash trees in town, including approximately 3,200 street trees along roadways and 1,500 in City parks.

What can residents do? Information is available on the City Web site at www.dublin.oh.us. There are many arborist companies and some landscape companies that can perform trunk injection and soil treatment. Homeowners can purchase soil treatment chemicals at home improvement stores, but tree injections must be done by professionals. The City recommends that arborists be ISA Certified.

Residents also should not transport ash wood from their property. For more information, go to ohiodnr.com/tabid/5066/Default.aspx

The decision to treat, remove or retain ash trees on private property belongs to the property owner. When evaluating replacement options, remember to consider the appropriateness of specific species in terms of size, location, access to utilities, and other factors.

Questions? Contact the City of Dublin Forestry team in the Division of Parks and Open Space at 614-410-4701.
